dogs

dogs have hearts

that don’t fit inside their ribcage

because when they come upon

someone new,

they immediately grant forgiveness

for any wrongs you’ve ever done

and they are like God,

in some ways,

because they give you grace,

and forgive you over and over again

because their smiles are brighter than the sun,

to light up the darkest heart

and restore a heart to its whole

something only the heavens

have been able to do
